andriesse ~ eyck galerie will present a solo booth by Dutch artist Marijn van Kreij (b. 1978). Processes of appropriation and repetition are a common thread running through his practice. The artist takes both iconic and lesser-known works from the 20th century and offers them a new context and form in the here and now. For Art Antwerp 2024, van Kreij brings together paintings on paper, drawings and collages created in the last ten years. He combines hand-drawn copies of artworks and illustrations from children’s books with cut-out fragments of texts. He overpaints pages from art magazines and catalogues with fluid brushstrokes. Certain visual motifs, such as the window and the snail, recur in various forms. This year Marijn van Kreij had an extensive solo show at De Pont Museum in Tilburg, entitled ‘How to Look at a Spiral’.
