Madé van Krimpen will present works by Klaas Rommelaere (b. 1986) and Ahmad Mallah (b. 1990). Both artists examine the complex relationship between conflict, identity and healing. Rommelaere’s latest series, entitled ‘Johnny’, is inspired by the documentary ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ by Adam Curtis and the film ‘Naked’ by Mike Leigh. His textile works explore themes such as individualism, conspiracy theories, national myths and artificial intelligence. Using hand embroidery, Rommelaere blends personal stories and his own photographs with symbols of human connection. Ahmad Mallah’s work focuses on identity, displacement and belonging. His new series of works focuses on the war in Gaza, researching and revealing the impact of the conflict. Drawing from images he sees on social media, Mallah uses airbrush techniques and soft colours, juxtaposing figures with symbols of olive trees and nature.
